Top 10 Tips When Booking Your Olivia Cruise – San Francisco Bay Times
By Maggie Beaumier and Kelly McMahon–
For nearly five decades, Olivia’s mission has been to provide safe and festive spaces for lesbians and LGBTQ+ women. And today, this mission continues. Olivia is the leading travel agency for lesbians and LGBTQ+ women, having produced over 300 trips for over 350,000 women.
From large cruises to resorts, intimate riverboats to adventure vacations, the company always charters the entire vessel or resort so guests can always feel free to be themselves. Exceptional entertainment, personalized and friendly service from the Olivia team, must-see destinations, and friendships that last a lifetime are just a few of the highlights guests will find when vacationing at Olivia.
Follow these tips to get the most out of your trip to Olivia:
1. Speak to an Olivia travel consultant.
You can book online at any time, but you can also speak to an Olivia travel advisor who will be happy to answer any questions you have. They can help you choose the cabin that best suits your needs and Your budget. They can also offer you a payment plan and recommend the best travel insurance coverage for you. Not ready to book yet? Your consultant can put a courtesy hold on a cabin so you can talk it over with your partner…or better yet, if it’s a surprise, they can make sure we keep it a secret (at least until the day of boarding).
2. Buy travel insurance.
You have well deserved your vacation. Protect your investment, whether you purchase travel insurance through Olivia or on your own. Protect yourself in case of lost luggage, missed flights or medical emergencies during your trip. It’s worth the peace of mind.
3. Make sure your passport hasn’t expired.
If you are sailing to an international destination, it is always a good idea to bring a passport, although it is not required for the ports you will be visiting. If you ever need an emergency return flight, it will be much easier to book if you have your passport handy. Also, make sure it hasn’t expired and is valid for at least six months after the end of your cruise.
4. Pack smart.
Olivia Cruisers has all sorts of tips and tricks to share. Some favorites include bringing magnets to attach Olivia’s daily schedule to your cabin wall or decorations to adorn your door with photos and other keepsakes. Towel clips will keep your beach towel from blowing off your lounger on a windy day. Packing cubes are perfect for slipping another themed party outfit into your luggage. Hanging shoe bags store toiletries vertically and keep your bathroom clutter-free.
5. Put medication in your hand luggage and important documents in a folder.
Stay prepared and organized by packing your medications (including an extra week’s supply) and valuables in your carry-on and your important documents in one folder. Keep your cruise ticket and passport handy as you may need to show them several times when boarding. Depending on your itinerary, you may also need to take your passport or other documents with you when you disembark.
6. Join the Olivia Facebook group for your cruise.
Each Olivia trip has a Facebook group. Be sure to sign up as it’s a great way to make new friends before you even get on board. Stay connected, get insider tips from seasoned travelers from Olivia, and share the excitement of your next vacation!
seven. Arrive a day or two before your cruise departs.
Plan to arrive at least a day before the departure date, especially if you are flying. Arriving early helps ensure you don’t miss the boat (literally). In addition, it allows you to get rid of any jet lag and rest before the day of embarkation. Olivia provides host hotels with preferential rates for our guests. Be sure to book early as blocks of Olivia rooms can sell out quickly.
8. Get to know your ship.
Familiarize yourself with the layout of the bridge and take a virtual tour. On embarkation day, take a stroll along the decks and around the ship. Check out a few favorite spots, including quiet corners in case you need some downtime or a private space to soak up all the excitement of Olivia around you.
9. Be ready to celebrate.
Come as you are and enjoy the full Olivia experience, incredible entertainment and exclusive community and camaraderie programs 24/7. Be ready to form friendships that will last a lifetime.
ten. Don’t feel like you have to do everything.
With so many exciting events happening throughout the week, including solo traveler meet and greets, Sisters at Play mixers for BIPOC guests, Gen-O gatherings for Olivians under 40, OWL trivia (for older lesbians), alumni parties, nightly entertainment, theme nights with amazing DJs, and so much more, you might need a vacation after your vacation. But remember, you can do as much or as little as you want. This is your time, and you’ll want to find times to kick back, relax, and watch the world go by.
