Funeral services for Jane Darlene Deckard will be held Monday, September 9, 2002 at Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Pastor Phillip Lepak will officiate. Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the church service on Monday.
Jane Darlene Deckard (85) was born May 23, 1937 in Albert Lea, Mn., to Cornelius and Minnie (Berg) Guldbrandson, and grew up on the family farm in Clarks Grove, MN. Jane attended a one-room school during her early years and graduated from Albert Lea Secondary School in 1955.
Jane met Ronnie Gale Deckard during their high school days. On June 15, 1957, they were united in holy marriage at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartland. They moved to San Diego, California where Ron served in the US Marine Corps (1957-1959). Their eldest son (Ronnie) was born while they were in California. From 1959 to 1962 the couple moved and were dairy farmers on Jane’s family farm in Freeborn County, where their next two children (Carrie and Paul) were born. In 1962 Ron joined the US Army. Jane supported her military career which took the family to places such as Okinawa (Japan), Germany (where their youngest daughter Susan was born) and Texas. After leaving the military in 1979, they settled and lived in the community of New Richland, MN. Jane has had many careers in her adult life. Her last was at Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter, where she worked as a rehabilitation counselor until her retirement in the spring of 2007. Jane was a life member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hartland, attended Bible studies, and been a member of Ladies Aid and Naomi Circle. Jane and Ron had many common interests, including running their Salmon Boat charters, traveling in their private plane, visiting family, and attending trap shooting events he attended and around the state .

After many years of being away, raising a family, pursuing higher education, pursuing different careers, and traveling to many parts of the world, she returned to what was familiar to her, the Clarks Grove area. . Jane loved seeing the creek flow behind her apartment in Bancroft Estates, the same creek that ran through her family farm. She shared many beautiful memories of her life growing up around the creek, surrounded by family visits with her aunts, uncles and cousins. Although Jane was an only child, her extended family was important to her and she maintained these relationships throughout her life.
Jane is predeceased by her parents, her husband Ron, her grandson Michael Deckard and her brother-in-law Parnell Brackey.
She is survived by her four children, Ronnie (Debbie) Deckard, Carrie (Gary) Hoshaw, Paul (Barbara) Deckard and Susan (Troy) Eggum; grandchildren Daniel (Mallory) Deckard, Jennifer (Mohammed) Deckard-Alajou, Casey (Tim) Harting, Cory Hoshaw, Kalley (Cole) Niebuhr, Megon (Jake Robeck) Frost, Elisabeth (Charlie) Miller, Amanda (Eddie) Dorow and Randi Eggum; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marjorie Brackey, Sharon (Luther) Kalb and Jane (Dale) Christopherson; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of financial memorial donations, the family would prefer donations to be made to a charity chosen by the donors.
